Guest Bedroom

This is our real guest bedroom.  This was my old master bedroom from Hoboken, NJ.  I used it for two years.  Then, it moved to my parents’ house in New Jersey during the time I lived in Baltimore, MD.  Then, when we were in the process of moving from Maryland to Rhode Island I had the movers stop in New Jersey to pick up the bed set to bring to our new place.  This was our guest bedroom set in Rhode Island for two years.  It continues to be my go-to guest bedroom set.

It is so beautiful and girly-it is so beautiful that when the DirectTV worker came to install the tv cable, he thought that I had a daughter and it was her room.  I love the white, girly bedroom set.  I got the entire set from Ikea years ago in New Jersey and it has held up so well ever since.

Guest Room/AKA Master Bedroom

thumb_IMG_1544_1024

This is the bedroom that my husband and I are currently using as our master bedroom.  It is actually our old master bedroom set.  We had the set in Rhode Island and now it is in our largest guest bedroom.  Since we don’t have our new mattress yet, we haven been staying in this room for months.  The only problem is, we have to take a little bit of a hike to the other side of the hall through the master bedroom to get to our master bathroom to brush our teeth.

I can’t wait until we get into our real master bedroom.  But in the mean time, it is awfully cozy in our old bed set.  In our old bed set, we only have a box spring and mattress-we don’t have a headboard.  It is very uncomfortable to sit up in bed on the wall without a headboard.  We have been wanting to get a headboard for a while, but it has always been at the bottom of the finance list.-maybe one day we will get one.

The other really big issue is we still don’t have any window finishings, so the sun comes beaming in first thing in the morning.  I have been on the hunt for some curtains for all of the rooms so I can start to sleep a little better and not have to rise with the sun all morning.

Another unfinished room-the office

So far the office has all of our office supplies and books scattered all over the floor.  We had a bar unit that we bought in Rhode Island that is in the office now.  We bought a bar cart from Target for $100.  That way we can store liquor on the cart instead of the nice bar unit.

We also bought a desk for $350 online-and now that $350 desk is broken in our basement.  We bought it from Wayfair and after my husband spent 6 hours after work putting it together, we realized it didn’t look like the description said it would and there was a gap in the from of the desk.  I called Wayfair and they were so sweet and refunded us and told us to keep the desk.  So we decided we would store the desk in the basement. We got it down to the last step, and then the bolt flew off the desk.  So now it is laying in a neat pile in the storage area of our basement.

In the meantime, the file cabinet that I bought from Overstock for $90 arrived and we put that together.  So now we are in the process of ordering a desk and hopefully some storage drawers for our office supplies to complete the room.

Unfinished Dining Room

My dining room is half completed-ok maybe I am exhagerating-I literally only have my dining room table and chairs.  The table and chairs came as a set from Overstock.  It was a steal-we got it for $800!!!!  I was so excited about it!  And it really didn’t take too long to put together.  Once the boxes were open, the chairs took about an hour and the table legs took even less time.

The hard part was just getting the place cleaned up from all of the boxes and styrofoam.  There was a lot of vacuuming and sweeping involved with the clean-up.

Pro-tip:  Always make sure you have industrial sized garbage bags and rags to lay nice furniture on the floor to make sure not to scratch it.

My next step for this room is getting a china cabinet to store all of my china, flatware, and glasses.  This has been very challenging because it is so hard to find a unit to fit in my space that will fit all of my pieces.  And I have given myself a budget of $500 to work with!  I have been scouring websites and stores all over to find something that will work.  I try to stay on a strict budget to really make the most out of each room and save as much money as I can.

How I organized my Garage

My garage is currently unfinished.  You can see the beams still on the ceiling, and the walls are a mixture of particle board and dry wall in the garage.  The builders left us some pieces of our carpeting from upstairs so that we can piece it around our cars and walk around.

We put my husband’s old desk in the garage for his tools.  We also used old plastic tiered storage shelves that my mom had used in her classroom to organize our cleaning supplies.  I used two of the tiered organizers to get our outside shoes in order (outside shoes=rain boots, snow boots, old sneakers, flip flops that you use to take out the garbage in).  I used a small tiered organizer to keep all of my work out and yoga stuff in order.

Our garbage cans sit in the middle of the garage by the doors so they can easily be taken out.  Last, but not least, we have our brooms and mops hanging beside the garage door so I can just grab it and clean inside.  My husband installed it quickly and easily.

You can get a broom hanger here on Amazon:

Ashely Furniture Living Room Couch Set

My husband and I went to Ashley Furniture to buy our couch set.  This came with a love seat, three-seat couch, and accent chair.  It also came with 4 pillows.

Ashley delivers their furniture, so all I had to do was be at home when it was delivered.  And, it was delivered very nicely and put together for the most part.  So as soon as it was delivered, I was able to use it.  The only minor issue was the stain on the accent chair.  The Ashley Furniture tech reported it to the company and they are sending another cushion for the chair.

The only thing that I had to add was felt tips on the bottoms.  I bought a huge pack of different sized felt tips for all of my furniture.  It was easy to get on the bottom and move the couches around as needed.

Over the next week I searched for some pops of color with turquoise pillows.  They are easy to find at most stores-and look for discounts!

How to Furnish a Living Room for under $2,500

IMG_2064This past weekend after weeks of searching, my husband and I found the perfect tv console for our living room.  Finally, we have furnished an entire room.

This is how much we spent for our living room:

-The full couch set came to $1,500

-The tv console was $287

-Home Goods Vase, Foot Stool, Cocktail Ottoman, Tray $190

-2 Target End Tables $140

-Online Area Rug $100

We haven’t decorated it with actual decorations yet, but to furnish this room, we have spent $2,217.  We stayed right under our budget.  We still have some wiggle room for decorations

My Pantry

On the top of the pantry, I have some kitchen gadgets such as, an onion chopper, cheese grater, and baskets for bread and chips.  The next shelf down I have my tea, sugar for coffee/tea, honey, and coffee.  Under that shelf, I have the salty snacks like pretzels, nuts, popcorn, etc.  The last shelf, I have canned items like sauce, rice, pasta, soup, baking needs like sugar and flour.

On the floor, I keep my lunch boxes (because I used to be a teacher), coolers, paper towels, and napkins.  I also keep my extra containers to hold my snacks.
